I have a 73 Merc 7.5 HP outboard with part of the skeg broken off. I have searched the web for replacement skegs, but I found nothing for 7.5 HP motors.
Can I dress up the edge and use the motor without the missing piece of the skeg. I plan on installing a rock guard on the motor since it will be used on the Susquehana River which is very rocky and especially hazardous during low water levels. It will be used on a 12' aluminum V hull boat. The rock guard will extend below the arc of the prop. Will it affect the performance of the motor?

I've seen a lot less skeg on an engine without any problems...

Check this one out... He ran for about 10 years like that before I pulled the leg apart and had a new one welded on...

Re: 73 Merc 7.5 outboard damaged skeg.

Closing out this thread.
I had my skeg repaired at the company I retired from (Machine shop and fabricator).
I am considering the purchase of a "Mac's River Runner Prop Protector"
I plan on using the boat and motor Small Mouth Bass fishing in the Susquehanna River. This river has a rocky bottom and a lot of hazaeds for the motor, especially when the river is low. I know the river pretty well where I fish, but I still want protection.
