Hello experts.

Question, I have 2 70 hp johnsons. One is a 79 70973r and the other a 74 70473m. Are the carbs interchangeable? The 74 has some rust on the butterflies and my 79 carbs are in good shape. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Also, same question for the gearcases.

Come on guys, little help here?

They both have different part numbers on the BRP site, but they both look the same. They look like my `76 carbs. They "should work"

Re: 74/79 rude carbs and gearcase ?

A little background. My 79 blew a rod so i found a 74 in good shape to repower.

Yeah, I saw that. Different carb part numbers. Have to put em side by side and inspect. Wondering if anyones ever tried it. Motor does fire. Bright blue spark and she started after a quick carb cleaning. Shut it right off. Guess I'll pull off those butterflies and clean em up then stick in some kits.

Drained and pulled the gearcase off the 74, case had quite a bit of water in it and a shot impeller. Not a good sign for the head or the case.. Housing, driveshaft and shifter are in outstanding shape for the age. Gears are going to be a different story. My 79 gearcase is ok too, hoping it can be bolted up. Part numbers match. Can anyone confirm this is a bolt up job?

Thanks
