Hi Everyone, we just bought a 74 Fabuglass boat that has a 1974 Evinrude, 65hp on it, and we were unsure of the gas/oil mixture. We didn't know if it was the 50/1 or not. Does anyone know for sure? There were no books or manuels with the boat when we bought it. Any comments would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks for your help.

Les

50:1.

Old/dirty gas clogs the carb jets, overheating & blowing the motor. So, make sure tank(s) are clean, use fresh gas, maybe toss a $2 bottle of carb cleaner in the first tankful. Run the motor out of gas, then drain the bowls before storing it at the end of the year (REAL easy to drain the bowls on the 65hp triples).

Check that your water pump & cooling system are working. The cylinders should be 100-140 degrees F (if you touch them on the outside). There is (should be) an overheat horn in your control box - I'd suggest having someone show you how to check that it's hooked up & working.

Coast Guard boating literature is free (I think) & non-reckless boating is more complicated than just getting in & driving.
