I'm parting out a 70hp 1974 Evinrude, having problems with the lower unit. i removed the 5 bolts on the bottom, the shift shaft doesn't seem to have a linkage for removal..When it goes through the cowling it makes a 80 degree turn then staightens out to the connecter on the powerhead. I can see the shaft about halfway down before it goes into the lower unit itself..My 40hp Yammie had threads and a nut that could be removed from the shift shaft. i see no sign of that on this motor..has me baffled. i got some parts if any one needs em..Melted a piston last trip out..any wild guesses what happened? I think i threw a ring..thanks for any responses! Mike
