I bought a boat last week went to a friends and he got it running took it to the lake and had fuel issues got the fuel issue fixed put the muffs on and no fire, Chased the fire problem to the rectifier it got put on with the wires pinched behind it and they shorted against the block, so i replaced it still no fire, replaced power pack still no fire, repalced coil still know fire.
fixing to replace the stater.
Can anyone give me tips on replaceing it?

It is time to start testing and stop just replacing parts. First you need a good battery that will spin the motor at 300 rpm to get it to spark. Do you have a OEM manual, it is the best investment you can make. While you are just starting to trouble shoot check the compression on all four and record the numbers as a base line. I write the numbers on the sides of each cylinder. Check all your grounds and then test the stator before you just replace it.

First, take off the rectifier until you get a replacement, you don't need it to run the engine and if bad, it can cause other problems.

Then disconnect the black with yellow striped wire at the powerpack and see if you have fire.

Was the stator physically damaged that you can see?

I've already replaced the rectifer and checked the kill wire I've replaced ever thing except the stater & timer. the stater as far as i can see has no physical dammage but I'm only getting 5 volts coming from it.

The easiest way to replace the stator is to leave the old one in place until you have the replacement so you can use it as a guide for the wiring. As far as mounting, it's just the four screws and some wiring clamps.
