when the motor is at idle it has a slight miss, it does not miss past a certain rpm, it runs very strong and hard at WOT, but what is causing the miss at low idle,,,, compression test= 145, 135,145,135. also to crank the motor you must hold the choke closed.

Howdy, Z.

You may be idling on two cylinders and running on all four.

Check this by removing or shorting out plug wires while at idle. If you kill a cylinder and nothing changes it was already dead.

Most likely culprit is the idle circuit in one of your carbs.

Good luck and let us know what happens. :)

Hi, Z.

Holding the choke while cranking is normal procedure for a cold engine. If the engine is warm you shouldn't need the choke.

If you need to choke it to get it started when warm, gummed up low speed circuit(s) could be the cause of that, too.

Get a manual before you tear those carbs down.

:)
