The engine works well until the boat is almost on the plane. If you then push the throttle open, she goes flat out for 15 or 20 seconds, and then dies in the water. Once you start her again, she will plough along quite happily at around half throttle, but dies as soon as you try and speed up. My first thought was fuel starvation of some sort, but a learned friend here reckons he would be more inclined to think it was electrical, and somehow linked to revs. This is a new problem, and started after driving on a really bad road, which caused minor breakages to the trailer. I mention this, because the motor worked fine before the journey, and maybe the rough trip has jolted something loose? Any ideas will be investigated, and thanks once again for your help. The only manual that is available in our local library, is for Johnson motors, and I use this to get general ideas for troubleshooting etc. <br />--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Check to be sure that you're timing base and related hardware is not binding, causing it to not advance as you push the throttle.

zimbo...I would surely look into fuel starvation problems a little closer....check to make sure the filter on the stbd side is clear...and any filters in line or tank...all that bouncing around could surely loosen some sediment in tank or fuel lines...I would start here...just a Thought
