I Have a 1996 ,75 horse Force outboard. on my Lund angler. The boat is run about 40 to 50 hours per summer. After de-winterizing this year I replaced the plugs, cleaned things up and the engine ran fine on land. After launching the boat it initially ran great, the I ran over some wake and the engine died. Nursed it back to the dock and went over EVERYTHING. !! Replaced fuel lines from aft bulkhead to disconnect,Replaced line to fuel pump,Replaced line to Carb. Replaced line to float bowl and to primer solenoid, primer solenoid to carb Replaced fuel line filter,Replaced the diaphragms in the fuel pump.Installed an anti-siphon valve in fuel line at gas tank, When boat is run,it runs well for a little while. when it is shut down and restarted , the primer bulb goes flat, in short order, and engine shuts down from lack of gas,After a few minutes I can pump the ball up and it runs for a few minutes more Then out of gas again. I also checked the gas tank vent, and ran a plastic line thru the gas line from the tank to the aft bulkhead. It was clear. The gas pickup was checked and the mesh filter was clean.Any Thoughts out there ???
Basin Dave

Re: 75 FORCE FUEL PROBLEM

hi i have the same engine and similar problems. I changed out the fuel pump with a Diaphram it for $20. My 90 merc 80hp would run real oily and this made a huge change in that one. Hey what are your compression numbers on this engine mine was 105,105,107. How does your engine idle,

Re: 75 FORCE FUEL PROBLEM

Basin Dave,

I had similar problems with my 150 Force. Would run good for about a couple of minutes and then shut down. Looked back and bulb was flat. Mechanic gave up on it..stated it ran fine on a portable tank but when hooked up to mine this problem would occur. He changed same things you have, that only left the fuel tank. Cut a hole in it and pulled out about 1/2 a pint of crud. Bulb doesn't go flat now and can run at WOT pretty good. I still have an idle problem I'm working on.
