Bought a 1975 Grew 194 with a 165 OMC sterndrive and a cracked block.
Want to ask a few questions before I go after a OMC manual. Has anyone found a on line source for a free manual? To swap engines does the Outdrive have to be removed first? I know the water was not properly removed from the block and it certainly is cracked. How does one check the manifold to see if it is ok or cracked internally? Would a car shortblock have the right holes for re-mounting?

Thanks in advance,

George

Want to ask a few questions before I go after a OMC manual. Has anyone found a on line source for a free manual? I DON'T BUT SOMEONE MIGHT. THERE IS ALWAYS A SELOC MANUAL ALTHOUGH FACTORY IS MUCH BETTER. HOWEVER, YOU SHOULDN'T REALLY NEED ONE JUST TO PULL THE MOTOR. JUST BE SURE TO REUSE ALL THE MARINE PERIFERALS INCLUDING THE WATERPUMP. To swap engines does the Outdrive have to be removed first? I WOULDN'T. JUST BE SURE TO SUPPORT THE OUTDRIVE SO IT'S WEIGHT WILL NOT TRY TO RIP THE LAG BOLTS OUT OF THE INTERMEDIATE HOUSING MOUNTING FEET. I know the water was not properly removed from the block and it certainly is cracked. How does one check the manifold to see if it is ok or cracked internally? YOU NEED TO REMOVE THE REAR RISOR FROM THE MANIFOLD AND MAKE A SOLID PLATE TO BOLT ON IN IT'S PLACE (WITH GASKET). THEN CLAMP A HOSE TO THE FORWARD INLET AND WATCH FOR ANY WATER TO DRIBBLE OR RUN OUT THE EXHAUST PORTS. Would a car shortblock have the right holes for re-mounting? YES BUT YOU NEED TO PUT IN BRASS FREEZE PLUGS, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT CAM AND IF YOU USE IT IN SALTWATER YOU NEED TO USE A MARINE HEAD GASKET WITH THE STAINLESS STEEL RINGS AROUND THE WATER PORTS.

Thanks in advance,

George
