The model# on my motor is V4AL-16D. The motor runs fine but will not go forward. I was told a coil in the transmission went out. I need to find a place to get a new coil or a new lowerunit for this motor. Any help will be appreciated

Actually I believe when the electrical compobnents fail on "those" they default to forward gear.

What you need to do, or have done, is to do the diagnostics provided in the appropriate repair manual.

It could be the gear selector switch.

Not sure, but it might even have a spun hub in prop if applicable.

YepBlaze.... The "Hydro Electric Shift" lower unit came out in 1968, through 1972. CD's lower unit is one of the older V/4 engines (1964) that incorporated a straight "Electramatic Electric Shift" unit: 12v to green = Forward, 12v to blue = Reverse, No voltage to unit = Neutral.

-------

CD_Brockett... I'd suggest that you tear the unit down before purchasing parts. The forward electromatic coil may be okay, or as you say, it may be shot, but not going into gear can also be caused by a broken spring or other causes.
