I am replacing the thermostat on my stinger. The Johnson thermostat I purchased looks a little different than the original. The new one is made with a plastic housing and does not have the temp marked on it. Can someone help me find out if this is actually the correct thermostat.
The package has a P/N 396987 while the thermostat has the #397056 on it. I am a little weary of putting this on my motor. 1980 75 hp Johnson Stinger 3cylinder model# J75TRLCS

Also, can anybody tell me what the poppet valves are for? Thanks Guys! Stinger 75

Re: 75 hp Johonson Stinger Thermostat

I'm showing part # 396987 as being the correct stat and is a 143* T-Stat. Over the years they sometimes change the T-Stats for one reason or the other. On my rude, they changed the water pump and T-Stat recommendation from the previous design. I don't know why your T-Stat has a different number than is on the box. Might want to call the dealer and verify, but I'm betting it's the correct one..
