75 hp merc Tilt bracket tube

Teleflex steering cable is corroded into tilt tube (1998 75 2 stroke merc)I sawed off cable on starboard side of motor. Nut is off starboard side of steering cable. I want to take complete threaded tube out of the motor tilt bracket. The old streering cable section is fused into it. Will motor disconnect from tilt bracket if i do this? (I hope not). Does the threaded tube that the steering cable goes through also keep the motor connected to the motor mounting bracket? Thanks in advance for akll replies. That's the main attaching point. Get a new tube. Lightly pound the old one out with it. But you'll have to support the motor. Hang it.<br /><br />Silly question, but this is your first post. How did you get previous replies?

In many years of replacing steering systems, I've never pulled a swivel tube, even on salty dogs. I wonder if the steering ram got bent and that is causing the resistance. Before pulling the motor apart, why not get some top grade penetrating oil and soak the tube thoroughly for a day. try to find a drift the same as the ID of the tube and tap the ram, being careful not to pound it over on the edge. If you burr the end, it ain't going through. 3M offers some great products for anti-corrosion, good luck.

Thanks for replies. My computer crashed so I'm using my Dad's computer. I didn't have my old password so I logged in under a new user name & password. I am Dennis G on other posts. virus completely took over my computer last 4 days. Can't get into anything on the internet except virus sites. Will have to reformat harddrive. Watch what attachments you open in your email.
