I have a 1986 75 HP Mercury 4 cyl S/N A995919 that will not idle. I posted on this a couple months ago but am just now able to get back on it.

Compression is good and spark is good but I have found fuel leaking out of both carbs. When I pump up the primer bulb, it gets hard and fuel begins to leak out of the nozzle in the center of the venturi and the small nozzle at the bottom that angles out. Why would this happen in both carbs?

Also, I intend to rebuild both carbs based on the feedback from my earlier post but am unable to find a repair kit. Iboats and Boatfix have only a gasket set. MercuryExpress lists piece parts but no kit. Mercury also identifies the carbs as WM-17, while the carbs themselves are labeled WM-14. Is this motor an oddball compared to the 3-cylinder 75s? Does anyone know where I could get a kit for it? If not, what piece parts should I order and will the WM-17 parts work in a WM-14 carb?

Thanks for any help.

well, i cant really help you on the kits, but i got mine at a local parts store. just get the part number(s) off the carb, or bring it down there.

as for the leaking, that would be either a bad needle/seat, or the floats are out of adjustment. its not uncommon to have that happen on both carbs, well, i have seen it quite a few times

Thanks for the replies. BAM has it.
Hopefully this won't become a winter project.

Sounds (reads) like you got what you needed.

Usually with a MERC we get the gasket kit and needle valve kit.

About 1/2 of the rebuild kit. Some of these kits give you springs, shafts, screws etc. you would never remove.
