When I was a kid I'd check out the annual eddition of Popular Science Magazine's annual outboard listing, marvel at the OMC and Scott-Atwater offerings of 'big' outboards, but as I recally for several years, the largest by far (this was the '50's) was a Rilley (sp?) five cylinder radial outboard.

Anyone got any information on such an engine?

There was a 5-cylinder radial outboard made by Cross, but that was back in the 1920s or early 30s. It made 35 hp. Not many of them still survive.

The Riley company re-introduced the concept in 1954, but I'm not sure how many were made. The company went out of business in 1956. It was a 5-cylinder, and did produce 75 hp. You can read about it, and see a drawing of it at the link below:

Ha! Thanks. Up until now, I wondered whether I had imagined it.

Ther is a book to read called: "Iron Fist", The life and times of Carl Keikhaefer. (founder of Mercury Marine).

Written by: "Rodengin", if I remeber right. Most of the other designs are mentioned, in that book.
