Hello my name is mike
boating is new to me any i would like to ask a few questions about my engine
i would also like to say THANK YOU in advance to everyone that can help me
i have a 75 hp chrysler outboard model # 756r3l
and serial # 1035 can someone tell me what year this motor is?
also i had "wrapped " the motor up for the winter...i just went out to start the motor i got it started within 5 min. i had made sure the motor was in a tank of water before starting it
i was looking for the water to come out thr 2 holes on the motor but all i could feel was hot air
i shut the motor off right away(ran about 2-3 min)
did i let the motor run long enough to pump the water or do you think the impeller is shot?i was scared to let the motor run for a long time without seeing the water being pumped out of the motor
also if i need a impeller can i order it from iboats because it gives #'s for impellers but not the year of the motor
sorry for the long questions i am new to this and i am really interested to learn all about this motor
THANK YOU
MIKE S.

Re: 75 hp trying to find what year this engine is??

Motor is a 1983 756R3L is the correct model number. The mercury site shows your impeller as F523065-1 which has only 6 fins and all the other aftermarket sites call for a 18-3085 which has 12 fins. If it were me I would take it apart and look. Iboats shows both impellers for sale however I think yours is the 6 fin impeller. I would not worry about motor at idle for two minutes without water coming out. It could take up to 5 minutes at idle if it is cold enough out.
