That's a 45 year old motor. How many times have the coils been replaced, spark plugs replaced, new fuel filters, fuel lines, carb rebuilt, points dressed or changed (if applicable), etc, etc.
Is the gas at 50:1.
If you say no to the above, maybe start with a tune-up and see where that takes you. Regardless, you probably need one anyway.
