I have a 84 mariner 75hp with no spark. I believe it might be either the stator or trigger. My manual says I need a special tester. Is there any way to test them with a regular volt meter? Any other suggestions to trouble shoot problem? Thanks

Re: 75 Mariner stator and trigger question

First disconnect the black/yellow wire from the switch box, that is your stop circut. The only thing that take all your spark out is the stop circut and stator. To test your stator disconnect all the wires from your switch box, put your red volt meter lead into the blue wire, black lead to engine ground. With the engine turning at least 500 rpm you should see at least 210 volts. Your triger should be putting out 3-5 volts.
