75 mercury model 110 9.8h.p. increase horsepower

I have heard that changing the carb or installing a kit will increase h.p.of a 1975 mercury model 110 from 9.8 h.p. to 15 h.p. is this true, and if so what parts/supplies do I need? also is this a good or bad idea? thanks

Welcome to iboats.<br /><br />9.8 is all the ponies you'll get out of that. The 6, 7.5, and 9.8 are the motors of that class. The next one up is the 20 and the carb won't fit anything smaller. They didn't have anything between a 9.8 and the 20 for quite a few years.
