1994 SL750. New engine. Carbs sat a while, I cleaned them out, looked good except for replacing two needle valves/seats. Starts readily, but won't rev beyond maybe half throttle. Except, occasionally, usually as I've given up and I'm returning to the dock, it decides to run like a bat out of hell. This lasts 15-20 minutes, then it wants to stall and bog again. Is there anything in particular I should be looking at? I know the fuel is new, the filter looks good and it's getting oil. I don't, however, know the origin of the oil in that tank, just that it is nearly full. My first thought was bad gas, but, I've run a few tankfuls through and it hasn't improved. Any ideas not involving high explosives or Craigslist?

Pull open your electrical box and check the stator values. Your electrical stator could be failing. Carbs should be rebuilt with genuine Mikuni rebuild kits.
