75hp 1961 johnson Overcharging prob

my charging system is overcharging so much that it really loads down the motor. Can anyone tell me what might cause this? Thanks.

Bad voltage regulator is about the only think I can think of off hand. Special regulator for the belt-driven generator system on that motor, you have to get the right one. Maybe someone on this board has one kicking around.

no generator on mine, it has a stator,rectifier with 4 diodes and a voltage regulator. i have tested everything and replaced the regulator but i am getting 12 volts in the field wire to the regulator for some reason, any ideas?
