I have a 1988 Mercury 75 hp outboard I just got the boat took it out seemed to run fine but at the end of the fishing trip when motor was at idle it idles very high and keeps reving up higher put it in forward and it engages hard because of the rpms it will then idle down under light load but when increasing the throttle it bogs down and dies out.
the previous owner put an inline electric fuel pump on to bypass the original fuel pump. The gas and oil are premixed 50:1 i am thinking the fuel pump has to much psi and is the cause of the issue. any sugjestions Thanks in advance.

If the pump is one that only puts out 2 t0 4 Lbs. of pressure, then the carbs and linkage need to be adjusted. It sounds like the motor is running to lean when it comes back down , then runs out of fuel when going back to higher RPM's. All the adjustments have to be done with the motor at operating temp.
