I have a 2000 Mercury 75ELPTO that cranks right up, idles fines, runs great, but over 5000 rpm it will run for a minute then have a bog. Then it runs fine for half a minute, then bog, over and over. I am assuming it's fuel starvation, the engine still seems smooth so it's not loosing a cylinder, it runs fine so it's not a clogged jet or emulsifiers. How can I test the fuel line for leaks and how can I test the fuel pump. Is there anything else to check?

Re: 75hp outboard bogging issue

Wow, what a disapointing response....

For those who come across this thread in the future: There is a known issue (not to the 'experts' of this forum apparently) with this generation of mercury fuel lines. There is a 100% failure rate on them. The liner fails, clogging the fuel pump and filter. When this happens replace with a new line and bulb, fuel pump rebuild kit, and fuel filter. I went on and replaced the plugs because I was motivated to, the total was $101.
