So re-did the carbs, fuel pumps, fuel lines, added a racor fuel filter/water separator and installed a new water pump. Motor runs like a champ on muffs but once I got it in the river it would not want to idle in neutral. I banged it into gear real fast ( I know this is horrible!!) And it ran fine until I bring it back down to idle in neutral the motor imideitly shuts off? Also, one point at WOT the motor bogged down for a few seconds then regained power again, not sure why? Obviously I'm not gonna rev it and throw it into gear anymore so now i have turned to all your wise minds here. Could it be i needed to switch plugs as I did 3 decarbs on the plugs that are in now, but they looked fine and clean? Link and sync? Adjust the idle stop up some? Any ideas would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!! Thanks guys

Compression test is step # 1 on any outboard that has idling issues.----Post your values on the 5 cylinders and maybe # 6 if you can get in there.

Following compression, you may consider poor fuel flow at low speed. Low speed jets are still blocked, carburetor low speed needle valves mal-adjusted, overall idle speed adjusted too low.

She should idle at about 900-1000RPM in neutral. Set carbs 1-1/2 turns open and she should idle in gear. Normally you can get them to idle nicely in gear at idle. When you try to accelerate, they bog or stall. The cure for that is to slightly richen the idle mixture.

Idle pickup timing is 4-6* BTDC? Max spark advance is 21* BTDC?
