I'm looking to change my spark plug wires. I need some ends but would like to change all of my wires. Would this kit work for my outboard?....or do I HAVE to buy the "yellow jacket" replacements?

I'm not worried about the ends if the kit doesn't have the right ones. It'd be cool if it did but I can come up with the ends as long as the wire itself would be sufficient for my outboard. It is a 1976 Mercury 150 HP 1500 inline 6.

I had a thread that addressed the "right" wires but would like to buy the cheaper kit and renew them all if possible.

Anyone know for sure ??? Thanks, Doug

OK, how confident do you feel about being able to create an airtight crimp on the brass ends?

Those are also copper core, which coorodes more than stainless. The oldmerc wires are $6/ea, so you would save $9. I would go for the premade wires, myself.

Why do you wont to replace them? In all the years of working on engines I can say I've only seen a dozen or so of these wires actually bad, I've replaced a ton that customers damaged not knowing they unscrew and a lot of bad/split boots....

Fazt, About 5 years ago, the bottom three plug wires on my '77 Merc 1500 were arcing to ground and had high resistance. I therefore think he may have a point.

Chris, I'm not worried a bit about the crimps. I've been an electrician for 18 years and have crimped everything under the sun. Also, the wires @ oldmercs.com that come up for this outboard actually say they are copper core also. I keep hearing they are stainless but the ones I can find are copper core. I have 1 wire that has a broken off end, 2 more that are questionable at best. The wires ohm out ok and I haven't noticed any arcing but @ 34 years old, I want to at minimun change all of the ends. I thought all new wires would be the best way to go. These are what I've seen @ yah $6 apiece, but the description says they're copper core ???

Is there another wire taht I'm not finding ?? Thanks, Doug

You've got to figure in the cost of the coil wire too, if I buy the individuals. It's $11. Not a whopping savings, but if they're both copper core, I can crimp em to save a few bucks.

Why not add a few dollars and get the OEM wires... Part # is 84-63212A2

I bought the ones from Oldmercs.com. I had thought they were SS core. I wanted the reliability of the machine-crimped ends.

Let me know how it goes.....
