I'm trying to take the gear case cover off the bottom of my lower unit.....the screws are really stuck.....they are soaking in WD 40 now....but they are really stuck....and turning them is impossible.....I dont want to "round out" the phillips slots....
I got one out but the others are in there.
A little heat....?
Impact tool of some sort....?
Any ideas?

sounds like a hand impact driver is needed...possibly some heat as well...

Outboard mechanics absolutely cannot survive without one of these. It has a cam inside that rotates the bit when you whack it with a hammer. At the same time, the hammer blow keeps the bit in the screw slot or Phillips. Works both ways, fwd and reverse. This one is about 60 years old, from Snap-on, and still works perfectly. I don't know about today's junk.

Thanks.....I thought there's was something......I'm on it!
By the way.....when I get the cover off (lower unit oil leaking out of the seam)......
What sealant do you recommend for that mating of the lower unit and the gear case cover?

3M Scotch-Weld 847. Clean the surfaces thoroughly with acetone/carb cleaner/etc. before applying.
