76 merc 500 pump question

I have a 1976 merc 500 50 hp water pump pulled apart. Have a complete kit but do not know where the fiber washers go. I did not see any on the old one. There is also one small rubber one. Be nice to have a diagram to show where they go.Can anyone help with this Thanx for any help

I believe they go in the bottom of the pump housing not sure. View attachment 168746 See if your housing has indents on the bottom side shown here in the picture The rubber one goes on this surface as well if i remember that type correctlyView attachment 168750 This is the base If it has the indetnts for the fiber washers then they go there. This is a different housing that doesn,t use them

The pic on the top is showing the water tube inlet,mine has a rubber sleeve and a plastic washer. No indent on my lower housing.

View attachment 168759the plastic washould fit on top of the rubber washer to hold it in place It also compresses the rubber gromet to make a nice tight fit on the water tube when torqued down. Be sure not to over tighten the housing it could damage the base. It happened to me ?If there are three fiber washers they might go on the top between the housing studs and the nuts. They might just be replacement washers for the old ones usually stainless steel
