Hi everybody got a couple of questions that I hope someone can help me with, here goes.

1. My 76 Merc 1150 runs perfect but all of a sudden the engine will cut out, at any throttle setting. It just dies like the switch was shut off.

2. At startup I get a squeak from the engine (mid pitch) could this be my water pump impeller... i had it in to a mechanic but I didn't like what he said (crank bearing) could it really be a bad beariing when my compression tests came back 145-150-135-140-145-145

3. My dad and I have owned this boat 76 Glastron V162 Futura and motor since new and it has always been one of the fastest on the lake (54 mph)... help her get back to where she belongs.

Thanks for all the help.

Prairie Pond Skimmer

Does it start right back up?
Squeak can be just a minor problem like Lubing the "Bendix on the starter" Your compression is good. Lower units can also be going bad and do this..Need to know if it starts right back up?

Need more info please.

Not the water pump impeller.

Thanks for your quick response Trent, here is some more info.

Yeah it fires right back up... we think it's something electrical but I have no idea where to start or how to test.

I should clarify it used to start at the touch of the starter... now it cranks for 5-10 seconds before firing. Also the frequency of the stalls is increasing. Thanks for your help.

Just had the boat out again... worked ok except for the stalls... When it quits I can put the lever in Neutral and touch the starter it catches and I can be going again before I drop 15 mph. I really have no idea about this...

First off......Remove the fuel tank cap and see if she still does it..Sort of sound like a venting problem.. Hard to see from here! :)

You have a fuel problem..From what I see from your posts. Is the fuel bulb hard all the time? Pump the bulb..Does it keep running like it should??

Go to WalMart and buy some Berrymans B12 and mix into your tank. This is a good fuel system cleaner. Iv used it for over 20 years. Seafoam works well also.

Pond, I believe your motor has a saftey tilt up switch that kills the mag in the event you strike an object and the motor kicks up.Its a mercury switch that activates as the motor kicks up.Find it and just unhook it and see what happens.
Also you may have a problem with kill switch circuit from key.Remember on most motors kill
switch is open to run closed to stop.Could be in key switch.
