dads boat has been having an overheating proplem for a while now.got everything replaced or cleaned up that has to do with the cooling system. question is, with a 160 thermostat, should he see constant temps in the 180-190 range? temp rises up and sticks right there. the temp readings are from 2 brand new one electric and on mechanical temp gauge.

What does "got everything cleaned up or replaced" mean? Not very descriptive.

new head gasket, new impeller, new t-stat, had heat exchanger checked out, new anti freeze, still over heating 210-220 after a 1 mile run. new gauge and sending unit and now reading 180-190

according to the mechanic, all water flow is good. risers were replaced last year, had heat exchanger inspected, new hoses, new impellar etc. should this engine run at 160 with a 160 t-stat in it or is 180 normal

where exactly are you taking that temp?

a 1976 gauge in the dash with 1976 wiring?

180 not normal. A 160 Tstat should keep the engine at 160 +/- 10 degrees

the electric gauge is a new oem in dash gauge with the original wiring
the mechanical gauge is a new aftermarket gauge that is tapped into the starboard side of the t stat housing.
