Prop shaft seals go in the gearcase head assembly,If thats what your asking. Is it? If it is I need those seals for a 75 and can go by this number to help find mine.

In that link above look at part #25 gearcase head assembly look inside it they go in it.I have read here of others replacing them,to remove them a dremmel hispeed grinding tool was used.
My problem is I cant find the seals,It was said a auto store NAPA I think has them.

Re: 77 25hp evinrude

Thanks for the part number! Ok number 25 in this schematic I am putting up is the (P/N 0389045) GCASE HEAD&SEAL AY ... The two seals you speak of go inside they seal the prop shaft the inner seals the grease from coming out and the outer seal seals the water from entering,Double seal

Re: 77 25hp evinrude

I just changed these out on mine last weekend. They go where the driveshaft enters the lower unit. Under the impeller housing. Remove all that, there will be a little spring looking thing around the seal. I just used a screwdriver and slowly worked them out. There are two of them stacked on top of eachother. Removed them both. To replace, I used the exhaust tube extension that fits on top of the impeller housing to slowly drive them down. Then put the second on top of the first and repeated the process till they were both flush with the top. I could not get the bushing out for the shift lever though, there was a washer and oring that go under that thing. Couldn't free it for the life of me, didn't want to tear it all out.

This is a fairly easy item to change, but requires a bit of work. First, use a 5/16" tap to tap the old bushing from the top. Then, slip a long 5/16" bolt with, a flat washer, through a piece of wood which spans the top of the gearcase. The bolt becomes a puller and as you tighten it the bushing is pulled up and out. To replace the new bushing, use a smaller bolt from the bottom and pull it up and into the recess. Good Luck!
