77 50hp flywheel stripped

Anyone have any ideas for me? I need to get the flywheel off and the center threads are stripped, the flywheel tool will only screw on about 1 twist then cross threads, looks like the threads at the very beginning of is missing.

Well you can use a universal puller, threaded into 2 or 3 of the 8 bolts that surround the flywheel nut. Or remove those 8 bolts and lift off the flexplate and outer part of the flywheel. Just make sure you mark an alignment point so you put it back together the way it was

Thank you, I actually just got it off using a different trick, in case anyone else has this problem. I took a sized 16 tap and just kept raking around the outside of the threads. The cutting edge trimmed away any burs and edges where the original threads broke off. Took about 15 minutes of raking the treads, then the puller screwed in.
