My engine starts first pull almost everytime....and runs really smooth at a higher idle(not all that high tho) if I try and idle it to where the handle says "shift" ,I can get it close to that...and as soon as I engage into either gear it dies..and if I try and give it gas quickly...it bogs like it is staving for fuel......can someone point me in the right direction....

Ty in advance

Hi Wired,
The markings on the tiller handle for fast, slow, shift, etc. are nothing more than a general guide and rarely is a motor adjusted so that they're right on the money. Wear in the linkages, etc. make the designations somewhat meaningless as far as an exact placement of the throttle goes.
As for the stalling issue, sounds like you're due for a carb cleaning/rebuild. You can get a carb rebuild kit from your local Merc Dealer or even NAPA. If the NAPA guy looks at you cross-eyed, ask to see their Marine Parts catalog. They sell the Sierra line of aftermarket parts (as does West Marine, Boat U.S., etc.). Might even be able to get the parts through i-boats. An aftermarket manual is also a sound investment and can easily pay for itself.
- Scott
