So I'm stumped. I had my boat out last weekend and it ran great until our way back in to the ramp where the motor cut off. I got it running again and had to pump the primer ball every 20-30 seconds to keep the motor running all the way back in. When I got it home I assumed it was the ball going bad so I replaced the ball. This weekend before taking it out I ran it and it ran fine with no need to pump the ball. Took it out on the water and it ran fine for several hours till again my trip back in it died. Started it up and had to pump the ball again all the way back in. I'm stumped as to why the new ball fixed it but now its doing the same thing again. I can't imagine the ball is bad already having just purchased it. The only thing that I was worried about is the male fittings on either side of the ball were a hair smaller than my old one so I was worried about air getting in but it didn't seem to be effected. But maybe it is. Any suggestions?

Sounds like a fuel delivery issue to me. I have to ask if your tank vent is open? Try pulling the choke and see if that helps it to run on it's own. Many times carbs. don't come clean on the first attempt. You said you cleaned it but did you put a new kit in it at the same time? You could pull the gas line at the carb. and pull the recoil a few times to see if it's pumping fuel well. Check to make sure the screen on your pump is nice and clean as well. Make sure the pump mounting screws are nice and snug. Have you checked your compression lately? Again, sounds like your running out of fuel so the pump and/or leaky connections is the most likely start point. Best of luck. Rick.

I agree with Rick. The fuel pump could be bad again as well. Ethynol gas is the worst thing for outboards. Ive been doing nothing but fuel problems in my shop for the last 3 or 4 years. ethynol is good for business but bad for outboards. If your not using a product like Marine Grade Stabil then you will not maybe but will have problems. Good luck!
