Hello,

77 OMC with a 302 electric shift.

Just found out that I have a small leak on my starboard log manifold on the outside so who knows what it looks like on the inside. Looks like I am done for the season.

I have been looking online and cant find a replacement.

What are my options for new manifolds for this? can I get some 302 volvo manifolds and risers and then just get some 90's, 45's bends and some exhaust hose or whatever and make the connection to the intermediate ?

Is it just a matter of making the plumbing work? or do you HAVE to get the exact replacements?

Thanks in advance

Try these guys. I have bought from the Canadian branch of them and they had all the manifolds & parts for my drive. (Same as yours, but a '76.}

so did you end up with log manifolds, or did you get a conversion kit for center risers ?

I didn't need manifolds (but they had them) just the elbows, couplers & gaskets.

Re: 77 Ford OMC "log" manifolds

I cant seem to find any of these manifolds online, other than used ones. I dont want to go that route.

marineparts has the risers but not the manifolds.

DO you think that these would work ?

I could put a 90 degree downturn and use some exhaust hose to make the connection.

I have never messed with marine exhaust before, I take it that you want to use as much metal in the plumbing and have a minimal amount of hose involved in case of burning it up, or is there marine exhaust hose out there that can withstand the temps?

With those banana style manifolds, wont I run into the same plumbing issues though ?

Ohhhh, sorry, I thought the 76 and 77 manifolds were the same.... that's a tough one to find... Good luck

yeah, you nailed it.

Looks like the only option is a conversion kit for about 900 bucks or so, the kit I would probably go with is one from Fred Warner on ebay but he doesnt have one available now anyway, needs some elbows or something.

I am reluctant to dump that kind of money into such an old boat with an electric shift, gotta love free boats.

No, mine are the stock ones like these ?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OMC-...at_Parts_Accessories_Gear&hash=item19c83335be

the more I research this, it looks like the only option for these fords are center riser conversion kits, unless you have some fabbing skills and equipment.

I saw those Osco's and they look they could be an option, but I am left in the same position as if I switch to bananas - finding a way to connect everything together.

How about Sierra #18-1904 with risers 18-1876? This is what I have on my engine.

Re: 77 Ford OMC "log" manifolds

That is what I am thinking will be the best option, probably will cost more $.

I worry about those center riser conversion kits and the amount of room they take up, I dont know if my engine cover would even fit over the manifolds after adding those.

So was your boat stock with bananas? or did it have logs and you converted over to bananas ?

Do you by chance know off the top of your head what the exhaust hose size is on the back of your manifolds, cuz it seems to me that those banana manifolds dump into the same general area as the logs, so making the connection to the intermediate sohuldnt be too difficult.

any chance of posting a pic up of the very back of your engine bay.

thanks again everyone for the help with this.

These were on the boat when I got it, and the guy I got it from bought it new so I know it came like this when he got it. Here's some pics of how they attach to the intermediate:

The large hoses off the elbows are 3 1/2", and on the starboard side there is a metal 45* (or so) between the elbow and the intermediate that reduces down to 2 or 2 1/2". I replaced the hoses when I first got the boat and I just took the old ones down to a local boat shop and they cut me the lengths I needed from stuff they had in stock. From what I can tell the locations where they tie into the intermediate housing are the same, but they may have different 'adapters' that bolt on to it to accommodate different engine configurations.

Check out my "Info for stringers'" thread. I just added diagrams for the intermediate housing and cooling system with the banana manifolds. Unfortunately they don't seem to show the actual connections from the elbows to the intermediate.

Re: 77 Ford OMC "log" manifolds

Thank you very much redneck for posting those, that helps alot. I think I could make these bananas work with my configuration, although I may need different adapters at the connection to the intermediate.

I also have a guy at marine parts giving me the exact specs on thier center rise conversion kit, mainly the height of the manifold and riser above the bolt line on the engine. and also the width of the manifolds.

he did say that sometimes on these conversion kits you have to get a new engine cover because they do take up a little more room than the stock stuff, so we will see if the conversion will work for mine.

switching to those bananas will be pretty pricey from what I have seen though, those components are freaking expensive. about 400 per manifold, 100 per riser, and 50 for each end cap. but that is boating I guess.

Re: 77 Ford OMC "log" manifolds

Does anyone know what Indmar is ?

I found these on the ebasicpower site,

http://bpi.ebasicpower.com/p/BPISBFIND/Manifold

and these are relatively cheap, and from what it looks like all I would need is roughly a 45 degree elbow and some hose and this could definately work. plus they look pretty low profile compared to other kits so hopefully this could fit under my cover.

Let me know how you make out with the center mounted riser conversion. I too am am exploring options for replacing the log style manifolds on my '89 Cobra 351W. The elbows (P/N 914985) to direct the center mounted risers towards the ends of the y-pipe are $150 each, but apparently there's a difference in my '89 y-pipe and the '91 & newer y-pipes, as they have different part numbers. They may be a different diameter or be positioned at a different angle. With your's beign a 302, your y-pipe may be different a well.

Re: 77 Ford OMC "log" manifolds

Actually my old school boat doesnt have a Y pipe, each manifold dumps into the intermediate individually.

I will post up the demensions of the various manifolds out there for 302/351's, its amazing how hard it is to get this info.

I have a few different online stores getting me that info, I am worried about the space the center risers will take up.

Re: 77 Ford OMC "log" manifolds

Update, I have reiceved some info bakc from various vendors on the demensions of the manifolds that are used in these center riser conversion kits.

Height - they are all ~12 inches above the bolt line (including riser)
Width - 5 inches wide.

It will be tight but any of these should fit under my cowling. So that begs the question,

What brand of manifolds should I go with. there are 3 that I have been able to find that would work

GLM, BARR and OSCO

GLM are least expensive and the others are about a hundred more give or take a few bucks. Do any of you have experience with these aftermarket manifolds, if so is there a certain one that I should go with?

Thanks again
