77 Johnson 85 hp tilt trim problems

I have a 77 Johnson 85 hp tilt trim. It has a solinoid in my cargo area and an electric motor on the transom mount. My unit will lower but will not raise. Sometimes I can keep hitting the switch and I will get a clicking sound in the back and then after some more clicking, it will begin to work and will work the rest of the day. Now it wont do nothing!! Any suggestions will be appreciated!!<br /><br />

check/clean conections on solenoid if no help just replace it that should solve it.

If replacing the solenoid does'nt fix your problem, then it will most likely be a short in your trim motor. Inside the trim motor is a circuit breaker which will trip when the trim motor heats up from the short, I see this quite often in this type of motor. If the problem is in the motor, you can replace it with a new one or have yours rebuilt, I can help you with the latter.
