77 mercury 150 won't power up under load

when fast idling it will hold 5000rpms, but under load it will reach about 2100. while running across lake i shot crab cleaner into middle crab and would power up till cleaner ran out. thank you for any info you could give.

try a search under fuel starvation on this site.<br />lot's of possible causes. for me it was fuel pump<br />diaphrams.<br />good luck,<br />M.Y.

It is not a good idea to run an outboard on carb cleaner because it does not contain the necessary lubricants for the motor (There are carb cleaners for marine motors though). Have someone pump the primer bulb while running to see if the motor rpm raises any. Also, don't run the motor long in this condition because if it is the fuel pump the top cylinders are probably running way too lean.
