I have ck all grds all appear to be good i have ck for loose wires found nothing looking at it again today & testing for voltage i test what appears to be a long black box with a few wires that looks like it comes from the stator the top half have fire when i spend engine over in the middle there is a wire coming from solinod switch that has constant 12 volt coming in & 12 volt going out into a round switch that is enclosed with a couple of yellow wire coming out from that point down to the bottom there is no 12 volt in or out & still nothing when i try to start the engine it just spins over & over

help please

16ftsunbird, your 1977 70HP engine uses a timer base with stator assembly and power pack to control the ignition. So I suggest you remove the flywheel and remove and clean all the terminal connections before buying anything to fix your problems. The fact that it hits and then misses points to possible corroded terminals. So clean up everything to shiny metal and try it. Some of the parts are no longer available so if you need any of them, you may have to buy good used parts... JMHO!

WTH is going on i got another power pack yes it was used but i had to try it needless to say still had no fire or spark so i start traceing wires again find nothing i pull the red plug apart test or think thats what i'm doing find nothing i take the fuel tank cap off just for giggles i then put the red plug back toghter then spin the engine and it scared me it fired then started i shut it off i try it again it starts 3-4 times of doing this everything seems good i'm lost but happy at the same time

BTW thanks for the input think i'm gonna try & make the water if not today maybe tommorrow

Sounds like something had the power pack grounded, the key switch does this to shut the motor off it's normally a black wire with yellow stripe .
next time it won't start unplug that wire and try it .
