I'm wondering if there's any reason why I need to crack the case on the sterndrive behind my motor? I'm rebuilding the motor cuz it wasn't winterized and the block cracked. The thing only had 250 hours on it when it happened and then sat almost 10 years now. If there's no rubber in the sterndrive can't I just service it and go easy with it like you would for a car for awhile?

There IS rubber in your drive, the water pump impeller is rubber as is all the shaft seals. That drive needs a complete reseal and water pump job if it has sat 10 years, and don't forget to grease the hell out of the waterpump shaft splines. 'nutcase
