'78 25hp evinrude. Which wire from CDI box to top coil?

25852C. There's a bundle of 3 output wires from CDI box. One is for kill switch, the other two go to the coils. One is solid orange and the other is orange w/blue stripe. Which one to top coil? I don't have a similar motor here to check, and wiring diagrams are vague. Right now it's orange/blue stripe to top coil, and I'm getting spark to both plug leads, but no fire (backfire once in awhile) when trying to start.. even w/a bit of premix into the plug holes. Both those wires are also spliced, so I suppose someone previously may have mixed 'em up.

Orange/blue goes to the top. Try crossing them and see what happens. Have you got a sheared flywheel key ??

Boobie, my book must be a total misprint; it shows orange/blue to the bottom coil/cylinder.

at the amphenol plug coming from the pp before the coils..A is black/yellow B is orange/blue C is orange... on the coil side of the plug it's A black/yellow B orange C orange...position A is to the stop button..position B is to the #1 coil < top cylinder > position C is to the #2 coil < bottom cylinder >

Since I can remember, blue is the top for sky and on a v-6 or 3 cyl, orange for the center and green the botton for grass. On a twin blue always went to the top.

The splices are due to the removal of the amphenol plug by someone previously. I thought the orange/blue stripe was to the top also, thanks for confirming AlTn.. I'll pop the flywheel and check the key. If that's good, I'll switch the wires around just to be sure it's not that. I appreciate all the assistance, and I'll post back w/results. Thanks again!

Popped the flywheel, and key is sheared off. Maybe switching the wires would've worked (if it was exactly 180 out).
