I've been on the hunt for a power trim unit for my Merc. But the damn thing is what do I get?! I've been surfing ebay and finding a few different models, for the 70's and 80's models.
Can anybody give me a helping hand on what to look for? Thanks boaters!

I'm pretty certain that your motor requires what is referred to as a "Type 1" PTT. No longer made so you will need to find a good used one.

It consists of 2 hydraulic cyls mounted to the motor (replaces the existing 2 shock absorbers), two mounting brackets for the cylinders, a pump/reservoir that mounts IN the boat, 4 hydraulic hoses that connect the pump to the cylinders and a 3-button control panel.

This type of system was used by Merc from the late '60s thru to the mid '80s I believe. The style changed when they integrated the pump/reservoir with the hydraulic rams and got rid of the need for the hydraulic hoses.

Keep your eye on ebay, craigslist, kijiji etc. I bought a complete motor with PTT for $200. The motor was just for parts but the PTT works perfect.

Here is a link to the service/installation manual for the system you need.
