I've got a late 70's (Guessing 78) 9.8hp Mercury. Just replaced the impeller and all is good there (my first!) but now I need to work on the fuel line.

From the carb there is a fuel line that extends out of the hood to an external connector. Currently the one that is installed is too big. The person I bought from said he used what he and new it wasn't right... but it worked. It leaks fuels so I can only assume it sucks in air too. What would the correct i.d. size be?

Is it possible to post a photo of the part you're having a problem with?

I'm guessing what I'm needing is the hose itself... $39.40 seems crazy expensive for a hose that might be all of 8" long though.

Re: 78 9.8hp Mercury

I have a 1977 Model 110 9.8hp mercury that I am starting to restore. I'm new to outboards so am learning as I go. I just ordered and received that fuel line. It has an i.d. of roughly 1/4" and is 57 inches long, that's why it costs $40. I guess some of it can be used to replace the tell tale hose, but other than that I don't see any other hoses to replace so the rest is just extra. Let me check this weekend and if I don't need it I can mail 10 inches to you for $10 to cover cost and postage.
