'78 Century 140 OMC tilt not working

After spending $600 for rebuilt tilt/trim motor and starter motor installation, tilt is semi-responsive. Shop said they cannot locate problem. Engine has "stuck" in the down position, and yes of course when I am ready to come out of the water, two times now. Shop has the boat, 2.5 weeks again and cannot isolate the problem. HELP! It's 100 degrees already and I want to get out on the lake!

When I got my boat finished the trim would only go down, not up. Is the solenoid clicking all the time, and it's just that the motor does not move? One conductor in the plug coming from the trim pump to the solenoids was loose. I epoxied it in place and it's behaving itself now. If you get the click but no trim movement the problem is likely between the solenoids and the pump. If you don't get a click then you'll have to troubleshoot the solenoids.

Thanks, I will pass it along to the shop. They told me I may be dropping it too fast? I have read everything in the original manual, and aftermarket repair manual, and nowhere does it refer to this. The clicking does occur after it is in the down position, and the boat has been driven. Anything heat associated you can think of? They cannot duplicate it at the shop.

Weird. How exactly are you supposed to be dropping it too fast? I don't get that....

Also, if you're so inclined I can outline the troubleshooting procedure from my manual if you want to take a look at it yourself, but I'm going fishing now so it'll be later tonight or tomorrow....
