serial 4862371, just mounted this engine on my boat and put the muffs on it to try it out, it took about 5 revolutions and it started right up and idled fine, there was however no water out of the tattle hose. it ran about 10 second then i shut it off. pulled the lower unit, checked the impeller and although it was molded into the direction of the rotation, the fins were still flexible , not cracked. my question is, shouldnt this have even dribbled water out the tell tale tube? does this engine have a thermostat? should i try to put a low pressure air hose to it and blow through it to see if it is blocked? looking for information on what to check and where to go from here.

also found this pin laying in the cover and not sure of it's use or where it came from.

Is the shaft metal or plastic? It looks like a throttle plate shaft from a carb.

Did water come out the exhaust or idle relief ports? If yes, the motor is getting cooling water.

Pull the tell-tell hose off the motor end to see if water comes out of the barb while running on muffs. You can run it for more than 10 seconds. Feel the motor and judge for yourself if it's getting to warm

No water out of the barb, use a piece of wire, weed whacker line or heavy fishing line to probe the barb. If water comes out, connect the hose and probe the tell-tell fitting on the cowl with the motor running. Bugs love to plug up tell-tells.

here is what i found on the water issue. the tattle tell hose was clear, I removed the water pump since the water runs through it. ran a wire through it and it was also clear. removed the lower water line from the pump to the head and it was also clear. what i found was the nipple from off the head had a piece of impeller wedged in it. not from the current impeller, must have been from the previous owners impeller. I removed it and then I could blow through the system. the impeller in it currently is still soft and plyable but its a few years old so tomorrow it'll get a new one.

on that pin though, it is metal. carb seems to work choke works, shift linkage is good. i dunno what it is or where it came from.

I think it is part of the quick disconnects on the hose.----The parts you twist onto the motor or the tank .---That is if your stuff is factory original.

I believe the part # is 30187------part of the fitting that plugs into the tank !

it is in fact that part that fits into the engine side fuel connector. i pushed it in, felt the spring action but it will not stay in. any idea on how it locks inside of the connector? hate to pull the connector completely out if i can just push that pin in and turn it or however it is held inside. anyone know?

took the connector apart today, turns out the o ring that goes on the pin broke letting the pin fly out.. picked up a new one, reassembled and it is good as new.. thank you all for the help.
