I have a 85 gt150 I would like to put on a 17.5' stratos. It had a 1979 115 crossflow on it and had a single steering cable. The gt150 had a double cable on it. My ??? is will the single cable work ok with the gt150????

It'll work, but there's a reason for using dual cable steering on higher performance boats/engines. With just a single cable there's more free play, which can potentially lead to an unstable condition at higher speeds. A dual cable system lets you adjust out the slop and reduce the chances of high speed instability.

Most boat manufacturers install a dual cable steering system when the outboards get to 150 hp and above. The Mercurys recommend a hydraulic system on their 150 (and above) Verado engines.
