Looking for answers on a bogging/stalling question. It started when engine is cold and you go to take off would bog and then stall and start back up no problem. Now even after an hour of low/closed throttle hit the gas and it bogs and stalls. Has new cap, rotor, plugs and wires last year. Whats the chance it needs the again? or is it fuel filter. pump related?

I know carbs but, is there a certain place to start, or just tear it apart and clean it all out? Thanks BondO!

I had a similar prob. My problem was my coil. Put and new one and everything is fine. Mine did not doe though, just bog and stumble.

Can the motor rev to high RPM's in neutral in the water.

I had a similar issue where my lower carb plates were sticking. A friend couldn't rev the engine with the throttle control but while he had it in neutral I could open the lower butterflys on the carb by hand and rev the engine way up. Further inspection showed that the throttle cable connection on the carb was rubbing a hose and not allowing it to open.

Try not to have your face over the carb in case of a backfire.
I'm a Tonka boater too.

In my experience if I have dirt in one part of a carb or another... chances are that more of it needs attention. I do better if i just go the full rebuild route when in doubt.

Note that what you're describing can also happen if you have water in the gas. when you pull the carb or top off depending on what carb you have on there, look and see if you can see any droplets of water. If it's fuel contamination related, youll just clean the carb all out then crap it up as soon as you put it all back together again. not that I've done this in the past two weeks or anything...

after the first time I wound up removing a very large amount of water from my fuel tank... and then going through the carb again after changine or cleaning everything in the fuel system... there was almost a gallon of water that settled out by the time I got all the fuel out of the tank, etc...
