Got the boat out for the summer. cleaned her up; motor started up with 6 month old gas; everything cool! Put it in the garage; let the motor down; and let it sit. Was out there about a week later; and noticed 2 small lines (LU grease) and a spot the size of a dime on the floor. ****! Checked the grease; OK: still black. The motor sat all winter in the up position; ran it on muffs about 20 minutes; then let it drain. It has sat almost 2 weeks; and the spot is the same size. Bad Seal? Looked up parts; it shows 1 O ring for a seal. Any thoughts?

Usually, the concern is if the oil on the garage floor is clear. That means it's new oil from the lower gearcase. The could be an omen of a gearcase leak. If the oil is black-likely it's exhaust residue which is dripping down the inside of the midsection. This is normal for a 2-stroke and does not indicate any maintenance is involved. Other than to clean the garage floor.

Agreed, if the gear oil is still full and no water in it, there is nothing to worry about. It is absolutely normal to see some oil drainage from the exhaust. On the way out, it picks up particles of carbon that turn it black. Actual gear oil from the lower unit can be a variety of colors, depending on what it was when it went in there, and how long it has been used. Do you change it as part of your regular maintenance program?

Thanks for the quick replies!! Hoping I did not have a problem. The lines I described were dry; and the spot was too. I did not notice that the exhaust goes through the prop. Ii am new to this motor; have about 3-4 hours on it.It was bought from an individual who got it from a storage unit. Thanks again!!
