Just bought this engine/boat. It uses about 6 gallons of gas per hour at 4000-4500 rpm's.

does that suck or is it normal?

If it is not normal, any suggestions?

Normal

Back off of the throttle a bit and try to determine your "sweet spot" for cruising and a tank will last longer.

Bob

Bob's right. Those motors can be really thirsty at or near wide open throttle. You're not going to cut consumption in half, but you should be able to get it down to 4-5 gallons or so per hour. If you have to run it that hard to keep the boat on plane, then you've got too little motor for the boat, or the wrong prop.
- Scott
