I have swapped motors on a boat. I removed an 83 Johnson 140 and installed an 79 Evinrude 150. Everything works great on both motors except trim and tilt. The 79 is a three wire system (BL, Y, BLK) and the 83 two wire (BL/ Y). Should I have switched the controls? Everything else matched up perfectly! Can I adapt it? Thanks so much for the help.
Dave

Hi Fitzy,
I belive that there is a different relay setup for the two engines. I just wired up my son-in-laws 73 135HP by using a relay box from a early model cobra using an 83 control box. Works good you might look into this that way you can keep the better control box.
Good Luck

Thank you. I did notice that the black wire was common on th three wire system. So, you suggest switching the relays?
THanks, Dave

Interesting. I've got a 74 135hp evinrude. it has a three wire trim/tilt. I'd like to know more about the relay box idea. Mine has a selenoid for up, nothing for down.
