I'm in the process of repairing a cylinder for a 79 Johnson 150. The remaining 5 cylinders are in very good shape (crosscuts are still visible) and the head just needs to be cleaned from the bad cylinder. Can a single cylinder repair be accomplished (bored to oversize) and does OMC authorize this type of repair? I also plan to hone the other cylinders and replace the rings.
This engine has never had any visible major work done on it. The original paint is still on the hardware (nuts, bolts, screws)....

It is an acceptable factory repair to overbore just one cyl. OMC makes oversize pistons and ringsets. The oversize pistons weigh the same as standard bore pistons, so that is not an issue. You do not have to rejet the carb on that side.
