Hi all - this engine (S/N 5278779, transom S/N 5215167) powers my first boat,a '79 17' Sunrunner. The previous owner took extremely good care of the boat over the 30 years of ownership and I'm doing my best to keep things ship-shape. Unfortunately the reverse lock valve leaks oil. This part is no longer available so I'm investigating options. I've found a couple of threads about replacing the hydraulic pump that has the valve built into the pump and it looks like you might be able to disassemble the valve and source replacement o-rings. Thoughts for someone with no hydraulic experience?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

The “O”ring is easily matched at an auto store. If you take the valve apart have it laying on a table in a shallow pan. There are small ball bearings that will fall out. If it still leaks the cover or the stem of the shaft is worn. Try that first before replacing the pump.
