Hello everyone. This is my first post and I appreciate any help I could get to try to resolve my alarm problem.
i have a 2001 VP 8.1GI-a with about 420 hours on it. She run fantastic; water temperature heats up to 175 and stays steady. and oil pressure is consistent at 40psi. The engine does not go into limp mode.
Initially, I would get an audible alarm sounding inconsistently. I could shut the engine off and restart and alarm would go away. Recently the alarm became consistent from the time the motor was started until key was turn off. I can run the boat with no issues other than the annoying beep. I have been unsuccessful identifying the problem. I even brought it to an mechanic to have the ECM scanned and he came back and said it could be a Crank Position Sensor or a Cam Position Sensor. From my research I thought the only reason the alarm would sound is due to excessive engine heat or low oil pressure? I identified the location of the oil pressure switch (lower port side of motor with 1 electrical spade connector) and the water temperature switch (front starboard side near oil dipstick with a 2 wire connector). When I turn the key to the "run" position the engine sounds the usual 2 beeps. I start the motor and a loud consistant beep starts and does not stop until the engine is turned off. I have tried disconnecting each of the switches mentioned above and it does not stop or alter the beeping. If one of the switches is bad and disconnected will the alarm stop sounding? Are there other sensors the will cause the alarm to sound? Is there a procedure to test the sensor? What is the chance the ECU has failed? I would think if the crank or cam position sensors were bad the engine would run well.
Does anyone have experience with this problem and resolving it that can help out. Thanks again for any input!
